Valid values for Snippet Parameters?

I can’t speak for the original (i.e. 0.9.x) parsing code as I did not author it, but I have spent extensive amounts of time benchmarking the parsing algorithms I developed for Revolution (2.0.0) with the xdebug profiler. It was imperative since the nature of the new algorithm means that it is executed more often than the old one. It is also not possible to use preg_match functions to accomplish the new parsing algorithm because you cannot handle nested tags in proper source-order that way.

As for double-quotes vs. single-quotes, don’t believe that FUD about better performance with one over the other, unless you run some ancient PHP version, in which case you probably have bigger problems to worry about.

Well, what’s a way to test a page using single-quoted stuff vs. one using double-quoted stuff? Would apache ab do that well?

How does one benchmark stuff like this?

Jason, I understand your point about nested tags... those are difficult. Even if the difference is small, it’s worth at least testing it.

I’m not a PHP programmer and don’t know the details of parsing documents in modx core...

Nice link! Yep, they did exactly what we were talking about: re-wrote the code that parses the parameters.

This question also came up in the Russian forum recently (specifically, how to pass a question mark as a parameter). Andrey Nagikh’s solution at http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,36407.msg219786.html#msg219786 says, basically, "un-comment line 843 in \manager\includes\document.parser.class.inc.php to get the parser to handle entities".
