Hi, I’m looking for a CMS to build a site where almost all the content will be added by registered users.
The registered user when posting should be able to:
- Choose a country
- Choose or insert a city name
- Insert a restaurant name, address...
- Post info about the restaurant
- Be able to upload a photo/photos
- Create an account (My account, My favourites, ...), with all the posts of the user
The anonymous visitor of the site should be able to:
- Drill down through all the info and find, for instance, all the pots of all restaurants from Paris/France, or one in particular if the user knows its name.
What I need is a good categorization, Country, City, Place when posting or when searcghing the site.
Can this be done with MODx? If so, any suggestions for a newbie of where to start.
Thanks in advance.
You’ve got options.
Evolution has a more established front-end manager, that you will need for users to contribute content without logging in to the back end.
Revolution has more complex permissions and (I think - I may be wrong) more complex template variable handling (your city/country, image uploads etc).
You could always use your own forms and custom databases to store the data (rather than create ’resources’ in MODX) and then use MODX resources to display the data as database calls.
So, yes, it’s possible. No, there won’t be a boilerplate solution.
Writer > E-consultant > MODx developer || Salesforce || modx 2.x || PHP 5.2.13 || MySQL client 5.0.86
The best way to go about this is to use Revo resources as views for your custom restaurants table.
You can use Revo for user management but I don’t recommend using modx resources for the user generated content.
Writer > E-consultant > MODx developer || Salesforce || modx 2.x || PHP 5.2.13 || MySQL client 5.0.86
Thanks to all for the answers. I will take a look, but I think it’s too complex for a newbie like me.
