I’m curious if others have faced this task and if so how they’ve approached it. Or, even if not, how they *might* approach it...
The task in question is to provide an archive of a Yahoo Group Messages forum/list on a MODx-run website. I managed to find some opensource Perl code that can pull messages, attachments, photos and files from Yahoo. The messages get stored in MBOX format and can be correctly imported into Thunderbird. Further hunting uncovered some mime parsing code that could read MBOX format files and I used this code along with code derived from NewsPublisher to create a snippet which takes said MBOX file, parses the messages and then saves them in MODx documents under a containing folder (we’re dealing with Evo here).
So far so good. My problem now is an organizational one, namely, how can I best figure out how to either organize these for navigation or link them based on their "thread"? Looking at the message headers, I don’t seem to see any obvious way of recreating a discussion. Or am I missing something?
A further problem will be to link messages with their attachments, but that’s not a priority at the moment. Also, there’s about 22K messages in this archive so - yes - I’d imagine this ends up in Revolution at some point. Which begs the question of whether or not I’d be able to load these into Discuss (or whatever the forum-related package is).
Any thoughts or stream-of-consciousness-pseudo-code would be appreciated!
Matt
