Mary (the Codingpad site) is back with a new Revo tutorial after a long absence which is great. But her series of Evo tutorials are totally worth reading even if you will be using Revo in the end. There are like 11 tutorials which cover all kinds of basic and far ranging topics. The best thing about Mary’s tutorials are the manner in which they are written. Nothing I have seen comes close. She never assumes too much, she will explain any jargon if presented for the first time, and will build a foundation of knowledge in a straightforward manner using sound english. Highly, highly recommended!

      sottwell, you said:
"If it makes your client happier to see "pages" or "documents", then by all means change the lexicon for them. But please don’t lump the rest of us in the same ...er... vessel as your clients, and limit our understanding of what we’re working with."

      Nice reply!
But would it really limit your understanding of what you’re working with if the vessels for your AJAX-processing snippets were put in a different container from the web pages? Could it not possibly lead to a better kind of organisation, which in turn might lead to an enhanced understanding of what you’re working with?

At the same time, and as an added bonus, it would then be easier for newcomers, clients and all such lowly vessels to fathom the workings of MODx.

You can use permission to hide, from your client, whatever vessels you want smiley
By default MODX it’s not built for regular users, you have to set it up to what your Content Editor needs which by the way, IMHO, needs to know basic html and have the basic skills of resizing an image.

Hack, I don’t even know if there is such a CMS that is build for regular users. I know joomla and drupal aren’t.

You say, "And if you are a good boy you give some contribution back to the community. "

So you don’t accept that feedback from a newcomer and suggestions about what could be better from a newcomer’s point of view are a valid contribution? I am not experienced enough to contribute code or to write tutorial articles or such like.

I’m steadily working my way through all your tutorials and I think they’re the best on the web. I hope you find time to do more about Revolution, and I look forward to them.

I don’t think that BobRay refuse your arguments.
We are all understanding your point and for the majority of us, we share it!
The main concern is that a Resource cannot be called "Web pages" or "Document" because it can be other things (like a file or an ajax connector) which are not Web pages.

Try to see the problem in the opposite way.
Assuming that MODx change the Resource name to "Web page".

How will you explain to your client that this Web page is an excel file, and this other one is not a real Web pages accessible, it’s just a php script for ajax calls, and this one at the end, is an RSS Feed ?
Wouldn’t it be like calling everything that are on the road cars, even though they’re trucks or moto ?

Maybe one solution would be to provide a button to create "web pages" or "document" as default behaviour, and an arrow with drop down list on the side for the other possible choices which will be shown with different icons in the tree for the other kind of Resources ?

But on the developpement side, Resources would still be Resources...

Worpress is certainly what’s coming closer to the goal given the simplicity of its admin UI.

Calling them ’Resources’ is not changing, folks. That’s a web standard term for what they are.

If you’d like to rename the tab, or any of the strings, you can do that in Lexicon Management. Those overrides will survive upgrades.

One year ago I logged into a Wordpress site and had no idea what to do. I know how to hack a wordpress theme but I have no idea how to use the manager.

                    It is pretty simple.
Adding a custom page is really more simpler than with MODx.

I have to admit that I’ve scratched my head to know the differences between pages and articles at the begginning but all in all it is simpler than with MODx.

For the client, the way to manage menu and options are more natural/easier than with MODx, more friendy.

But there are many downsides too.
For example: no real documents hierarchy, constant feeling of working behind clearly limited boundaries and the code (even for custom admin page) seems simpler but also a lot more messy than with MODx. Really REALLY messy...

So much ink and time for a word!!

We will see what happens with the other 5 million words in the docs...
