Yet another newbie wayfinder question

Hello modX community. Would anyone know where any real-world examples of wayfinder-based subnavs would be located to inspect?

I currently have a single template containing two instances of wayfinder. The first is your standard horizontal topnav dropdowns -- currently working fine.

The second instance is a left nav displaying the children of the topnav parent nodes(while hiding the parents via a blank ParentRowTpl ) I then display the parent node via the ActiveParentRowTpl in a h3 before the wf.wrapper.

This system works well for displaying the entire topnav and when clicking on, for example ’about us’ in the topnav you are directed to a page with the leftnav displaying ’About Us’ in a h3 with a ul under it displaying only the children contained within the ’about us’ folder in the modX manager.

The problem arises when ’About Us’ folder has a child with a child, for instance: about us/who we are/staff. This blows everything up(I assume due to the wonky blank Tpl that is used).

Anyway, if anyone has come across this rather standard navigation implementation and could point to an example it’d be great -- I’m a newb and am not quite sure how to attack this problem... maybe different templates with ignoreDocs or something... I’m unsure at this point.

Any help would be greatly appreciated.

However, you won’t find an example of this particular menu type there. In your case, if I got you correctly, one way you can achieve what you are looking for is using wayfinder together with the snippet called ultimate parent. If you installed modx with the sample content then you have it installed already. If not you can find it in the wiki. Here’s an example of someone who had the exact, well almost exact, problem like yours. OK, so the jist of the solution would be to use the ultimateParent snippet in the startId to populate the subnav with the children and the children’s children but not the doc tree’s root nodes. Correct?
