Banner Campaign

Was wondering if there is a modx Banner Ad Banner Campaign tool so you can put banners on your site?

What sort of banners? What sort of metrics do you want? Can you share an example from another CMS system?

There are all sorts of ways to go. It is not a hard thing to do if you could offer more details.

That looks like a pretty complete system. Why reinvent the wheel?

You could install OpenX on your server and then create a module to show it in the manager. This would be a heck of a lot faster than a custom build. If you need help creating a module (easier than it sounds) we’d be happy to help. It isn’t exactly pure integration but since it uses JS to track activity and record to its manager it would be pretty easy to do. You could serve the banner snippets with chunks pretty easily.

Thanks for your help. I am just learning modx i am going to print out the manual. That is the only thing that modx is lacking its own banner campaign like joomla has a built in one.

The thing is that Joomla is a portal system and there are great plugins/modules for it. Looking at OpenX I don’t think it makes sense to write a new one when adding a script within a frame in the manager is very easy. So you’d have your app and one back end. I don’t think it would take much to sync the logins or to have a small snippet do the login for you if you are in the modx manager.

I agree with you on that one. Basically the site I am working on will allow users to register and login to write stories online. Does Modx do that right out of the box?

Almost. You will need to set up a registration system with web users login or one of the advanced user manager addons I think WebloginPE will do what you want. You’ll have to start a new thread for that one since I’ve never personally used it.

When I had banners running on my old site I put them all in a folder, then used ditto I think to randomly show them. If you are a member of an affiliate network, just use them to generate reports, they have all the click rates etc

simonok, I would have suggested it but as @stargatesg1 pointed out he/she was looking for a campaign manager too to count clickthroughs, impressions pageviews etc. I agree though if you are serving repeated content random or otherwise Ditto is the way to go.
