What is the scope of a variable declared in the Module Manager?

I would like to know what the scope of a variable declared in the module code is?

Is it global? or is that code treated as a function

The module code is eval()’ed, so according to the PHP documentation

Also remember that variables given values under eval() will retain these values in the main script afterwards.
