Hi there,
I’m using Ditto to list published and un-published articles which are paginated and have edit links under each one. When a web-user (aka content editor) is logged in they can create, edit and rank the new article but when it comes to viewing an un-published article the webuser cannot view it in it’s natural location. Is there any code/diffs/patches/tricks to allow a logged in web-user to view said un-published article?
I was considering auto-moving the article into a holding folder and publishing it there so the content editor could see it but that would destroy the un/publish data and thus defeat the purpose of allowing articles to be published on a particular date.
Any help on this one is much appreciated.
cheers

ps: I briefly tried out newsmanager snippet from a while back but it crashes when you paginate to the end for some weird reason. Ditto allows me to order and show the articles in the same order they are presented on the site too. Newsmanager is a dead end (atm) for me.
I don’t think that web users can view unpublished documents. I use manager users to manage the site, these can view unpublished docs.
I would consider doing a direct edit to the db (bypassing any of the modx parsers). Since the db really does not care if docs are published or not you could edit virtually anything.
Thanks for replying. I suspected that there was no easy way to allow webuser logins view un-published articles. I’m using a front end CMS and I want to have the ability to view un-published articles via the front end depending who you are etc.
I’m already able to edit create and change the publish status using a web user (aka content editor) login but it’s hard to complete the custom CMS interface I’ve made for the front end without a ’view’ un-published article feature.
Anyone know of a way round this limitation?
Cheers
Ditto can handle unpublished pages. You could have a ’hidden’ chunk and use Ditto to create a list/menu of unpublished documents, use the ’published’ document variable as the tag data. Then load the document via ditto with tagDocumentID. I know that FDM (Front end Document Manager) works publishing docs and has a built in button that toggles the publish state, and if I remember correctly it will work embedded in Ditto so this may be a solution.
You’d have to check, but I think
FrontendDocumentManager can handle this kind of workflow

Hi there,
Thanks for replying. I’ve got ditto 2.1 successfully showing the published and un-published as below. I’ve been wrestling as to how to let the editor view the actual article itself by clicking on the icon. I’ve got it sorted now. I used a piece HTML and not the Modx->sendRedirect to carry this out. granted the manager page does refresh a bit whilst this all goes on it seems to work for our initial internal needs.
Ditto 2.1 is superb btw!! I looked at FDM but I already had half of the elements sitting around and decided just to bolt them all into a manager page.
