    Hi,

I would be grateful for some advise on the above subject considering the following points as given below.

    1. The open source apps i have in mind currently do not follow any framework but being used extensively. I want to migrate the same into MODx and would like to know where to start.

    2. Since hese apps are considerable in size is there any tools available for a smooth migration?

    Regards

Since the Manager uses frames, it’s usually pretty easy to simply make a module that does nothing more than run your app in the right frame of the Manager. I’ve done that with the perl CGI scripts for dada mail, and it worked great. I just made a module with a link to my cgi-bin/dada/mail.cgi page, and dada did the rest.

The first of my three articles on creating modules shows how to make a simple module. http://sottwell.com/database-module.html

If you want to get fancy, you can add links in the main menu and/or the Manager welcome page, but that involves hacking the manager/frames/menu.php file and/or the "Welcome" page, manager/media/style/MODxLight/welcome.html.

        Hi,

Thank you for your reply. I understand the suggested method but would like to hear on how to totally integrate within modx and take advantage of the php framework.

        Regards

Unfortunately, there’s no standard way to integrate PHP applications, especially those that have some kind of built-in user management system like MODx. You’ll have to approach that on an application by application basis, determining how/if it can be integrated. Unfortunately, not much in the way of standards for common services has appeared in the PHP application development world and until there does, there’s no shortcut to solve user management, URL routing, etc. You’ll just have to brute force it after gaining an understanding of the MODx framework.

Upcoming refactorings will make this a little easier in the future, but I wouldn’t expect any silver-bullets any time soon.

Thank you very much for the response.

In your opinion how easy is the brute force integration under MODx framework for an average LAMP programmer?

Is there any white paper with a sample on how to integrate other php applications within MODx framework ?

            Regards

Well, you can look at how I integrated the Koops Mailinglist into MODx, with a module for management and a snippet for subscriber signup http://sottwell.com/koopsmailinglistx.html

Log in to the Manager as guest user and run the module (you can’t really send a mailing). Then go to the "manage modules" menu item and view the module’s code. Don’t forget to check the configuration tab as well.

I think this would be interesting to see. But could you please clarify the login details for the manager? I do not get in at http://www.sottwell.com/manager with login/password = guest/guest.
