    Hi to all.
Being a newbie let me start with telling you that I really like ModX, and especially the forums.
After weeks spent on learning ModX Revo, I’m starting to get the hang of it.
One thing I’m really missing out though is back-end user management.
    Let me try to explain:
I’m setting up a website with user login, profiles, and a voting system (hopefully, still working on it). I would like the client to be able to manage the (web)users (from within in the manager). Generating lists, exporting users (CSV), sending newsletters, get the vote results etc., all from within the manager interface (wich seems to me the right place.)

Is ModX the right tool for that?
Do I need to create that many CMP’s?
Is there a newsletter plugin-snippet that uses the user-database? (instead of creating its own)

    Thanks in advance.

Damn, am I the only one looking for more back-end user management?

The only publicly-shared Newsletter package is the DitsNews one, which I haven’t tested yet. There’s also a Polls package that may handle the votes aspect you want. User management is already baked in - but it depends on whether you like JSON or not as to whether you use the existin modUser with extended_profile or use a separate table to reference the master user table.

Personally, I find making CMPs a lot harder than I’d like, as I don’t really get ExtJS at all. What I’ve done is hacked through some of the packages that use CMPs, like Quip, or Bruno17’s Xdbedit, but it wouldn’t be a trivial undertaking as things stand. I’ve done something vaguely similar to what you describe in a couple of days from a standing start - but that’s modifying existing code, rather than writing new stuff.

Whether it’s the right tool, depends on how you feel about ’wouldn’t be a trivial undertaking’.

Thanks for the info. Already figured out it wasn’t going to be easy, but I will give it a try though. I really like the rest of the modX CMS..
