How to do integrations like SMF

Hi all,

I was amazed how easy could SimpleMachinesForum integrate into ModX, especially importing existing users!

Now, I want to build several integration solutions for:

- Bake Sale (its a lite e-shop sistem)
- MediaWiki (’am sure you know this one )
- FlySpray (lite bug tracker system)

Maybe..

- Jinzora2 (streaming jukebox)
- Wordpress (exactly)

Why?

I’m building a music band web site with Modx, I’ve already set up SMF,now I need a simple e-shop solution
where Bake Sale seems like a good idea,am also trying out Open Cart,but I’ll guess I’ll go with Bake Sale....

Wiki like system for archiving bands development...

FlySpry, where useres can submit bugs, feature requests,help improve the site over time,help it grow....

Jinzora2, I’m still thinking about this one...

Wordpress??? Well idea is to use existing Modx blog system something like the band blog,where each band member can blog about the band and the work, and the separate wordpress installations for each band members
where they can blog,well,about anything....

Idea

First- idea is to use WebLoginPE so users,when they log in they are also logged into all these systems,meaning,once they want to edit Wiki,or comment on Wordpress, or shop,or submit a bug,they do not need to log in again and again and again.....

Second- administration of these systems could also be acsessed through ModX manager backend...

Question

I’m already examining SMF solution and how it is done,so based on that I’ll try to develop a plugin,module,snippet solution for these systems...

Could anyone recommend me what docs,books etc. to read that could help me,also does anyone have a good starting tip,idea,advise? Anything that could help me achieving this?

Main gold for me is to, if I achieve this, to document everything, write tutorials about how its done,( to help and
inspire others to develop more integration solutions for other systems), to contribute MoDx with modules,plugins,snippets...

Code name for this project is: "MODX...One CMS to rule them all!"

BakeSale looks interesting for me also, the cart solutions that I have found for MODx so far are to complex for my needs or are not functional.

I would be very interested in hearing about your progress with integrating BakeSale.

FYI, BakeSale was created by a friend of mine Matti Putkonen in Finland. I’ve watched it grow up since before it was released and he’s done a great job of making a really usable, straightforward ecommerce solution on top of the Cake PHP framework. (We were part of the original Zen Cart team.)

Wow, ain’t the web so small , I must admit that BakeSale is very interesting though its dependence on Cake puts me off a bit, I mean one framework is enough , on the other hand Open Cart is rather good as well...I even went on thinking to do new simple cart solution from the scratch,cause I need paid subscription service feature which BakeSale and OpenCart dont have (not that its something that regards e-commerce systems though )

Anyway, I’ve put this project on hold for now cause I’ve read some things about ModX ver 0.9.7, how it will almost be different system regarding snippets and chunks and that stuff, how it will handle things differently as a matter of fact I’ll download it from svn and give it a go to see what its all about, but will surely wait 0.9.7 at least beta to continue this project. I’ve added Project Pier on the list, could be very handy I mean just think of it...you log to your modx manager , and in one click of a button you manage forum,cart,bugtracker,project manager,chat,wiki and who knows what else

I checked out Opencart and it certainly fits the bill for me. Lean as it is, it nevertheless seems to have the needed features without being bloated. It could very well be a good prospect for MODx integration.

It was not too hard integrating Opencart (www.opencart.com) into my MODx site, and I recommend checking out this cart solution. It is very clearly laid out and easy to customize. And it is XHTML compliant (with a few exceptions that I guess are minor bugs).

For now, all I wanted was a store with the same layout as the site and it worked out quite well.
I used this call to display the cart in the MODx content area after I had the store working the way I wanted:



The rest is just CSS.

I suppose it would be fairly easy to display product/price data from the opencart tables in other places, but I haven’t tried anything like that yet.
