Integrating WYMeditor in MODx

Does anyone have any idea how http://www.wymeditor.org/en/ this (WYMeditor) could be integrated into MODx CMS? I don’t like TinyMCE - it is messing up my pure and clean code.

What WYSIWYG editor is this site using? I like the skin if it’s a skinned TinyMCE.

I raised the question a while ago, and Jean-François (aka jfh on these forums) answered that he was interrested in helping integrate WYMeditor to MODx but I guess right now the priority goes to WYMSite, a lightweight CMS they are working on...

I voted TinyMCE because we have no better alternative at the moment.

I wish we had something better, a semantically sound standard compliant editor powered by jQuery or Mootools... but to my amazement nothing has emerged yet. Where is the web 2.0 editor

I’d even go as far as saying FlashTA would be a decent option if it were less buggy...

Wow - I had never seen http://www.extremefx.com.ar/demos/fta/index.php?rnd=1316795338 Flash TA before, but I really like it! It seems to load very quickly too.

I think I might just disable TinyMCE, but some of my sites require that non-HTML people edit pages. Oh how I wish jfh would integrate WYSeditor into MODx!! :’(

JFH just mentioned that he would help with the integration, i.e., probably answer questions for anyone more familiar with MODx attempting to integrate it. I think that Ryan’s major hangup with WYMEditor, if I remember correctly, is that it did not play nice with Safari yet. I am still not sure if it plays as well with Safari as it should (there is still a bug listed for the next release, 0.5, called "[Patch] Safari Integration"). However, I think it just has some odd behavior with Safari and is not completely broken in that browser. They have really done some neat things as the development progresses. The last time this subject was approached they were working on the 0.3 release, and now they are at the 0.4Beta2 release. It can be downloaded here:

FYI, there is a FlastTextArea plugin for MODx : http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,13345.0.html
It works, but there are glitches with the bundled FileExplorer stuff
Too bad... for once I’d almost become a Flash enthusiast

What does it take to integrate a new plugin to MODx? It seems like replacing TinyMCE should be pretty straight-forward, right?

Ryan Thrash could make a WYMeditor plugin in a matter of minutes, couldn’t he? There’s so much that I don’t know about MODx and how it was built.

I saw that Thrash wrote the plugin tpl for TinyMCE. What is he up to these days?

The one and only reason I can’t use this editor is because it doesn’t work in Safari. Unfortunately, my clients use Mac and we’ve only recently begun to install FF on them...

When Safari support comes I’ll definitely write a plugin for this because I’m an XHTML fanatic.

If they meet their deadline they have set, we should see version 0.5, which should be compatible with Safari. FYI, there is a patch for Safari compatibility located here:
