Have had a potential client ask for the following - I’m not too sure how or if they are possible to implement in MOdx - well at least the faceBook one?

Is it possible to update/upload the content of a blog in MODx to Facebook - on searching I see there is a FaceBook LinkShare button package but don;t think this is what I’m after.

Then the client wants people (about 20 individuals) to be able to upload pictures / video etc to their own unique individual pages (micro sites as it were) - so if I give them Editor access I do not want them able to edit any other pages except their own - is this done through creating individual user groups etc

For the above I will be using Evo 1.02

    Thanks is advance

I would first examine the possibilities of the Facebook API and see how that - if at all - connects to your clients request.

If you Google on "Facebook API" there’s quite a bit of reading material popping up.

From the part of MODx you’re quite flexible at the PHP level (at least for Revo, don’t know about Evo).

Is there a particular reason you’d opt for Evo 1.0.2 since the current version is 1.0.4 and 1.0.5 will be out in a week or so? There are some security and bug fixes that have been introduced at each release. 1.0.5 will be mammoth and out likely by the time you are ready to go. I’d be inclined to build on Revo based on your user permissions needs thought they would likely be accomplished well enough in Evo provided they are all trustworthy employees/users.

That being said you can create and send any RSS feed to a Facebook Page provided you set it up to do so for the blog. You don’t require any API work but just create an RSS feed and add an application like this to insert your feeds: http://apps.facebook.com/blogrssreader/Default.aspx?fb_page_id=19110642979 although you could make a plugin to fire onDocPublish using the Facebook Graph API (http://developers.facebook.com/docs/api/) and look down at the Publishing section. It looks like a pretty simple bit of curl.

        Cheers,

Thanks - have been doing some more reading and the permission thing should be doable (famous last words).

Further edit to the above - think I’ve sorted that now just about.

I have built over 20 sites in Evo 1.2 and yes I will look at 1.5 etc

I have dallied with Revo but for migrating / building new sites based upon previous MODx sites I prefer EVO all I do is change the design etc / CSS and clients are more than happy - and I can turn them around really quickly copying pasting chunks, TV’s snippets etc

See http://www.jbcservices.co.uk/ and then http://www.worthing-surveyors.co.uk/ and more functionality http://www.a-r-t-photography.co.uk/

I know I should get to grips with Revo but I still find it biased towards those that are more programming orientated rather than a Jack of all Trades (master of none) simple Web Developer / Designer like Moi.

Anyway meeting the client today and find out what he really wants!

Revolution works the same as Evolution when talking about chunks, tv’s and snippets. However, Revolution is more flexible and powerful then Evolution.

Okay - you can’t simply copy over chunks and snippets from Evo to Revo, but once you’ve set it up again you’ll be glad you did.

I consider myself a jack of all trades and master of none, too, although I am more developer than designer, but once you got through that first learning curve (especially regarding security, form customization and if needed the new api) it’s a blast. A while back I needed to do something in Evolution that I knew was very easy in Revolution, but I just couldn’t figure out how to make it work in Evo... I’m getting spoiled smiley

+1 for making the jump from Evo to Revo!

I didn’t hesitate, even after being an Evo user for quite some time. Revo is dead easy to get used to. Most of the core features work similarly, but better! The user interface is delicious, and the drag and drop features come in very handy. The way you manage add-ons is great too.
