Modify TV by snippet. It is possible?

Hello all.
Excuse me for poor english.
I can`t find solution of my problem.
I need to modify value of TV-var of current document. I want use the snippet for this task. But I can`t discover any API function are may help. It is possible?
Direct SQL query can help but this method is linked with CMS engine. Therefore it is undesirable.

This is one of the many motivations for the core rewrite which will provide much more consistent and easier to use API’s when it is released with 0.9.7. The best solution currently is unfortunately to duplicate the functionality the manager uses to save the TV’s (or the DocManager module), both of which currently use logic and direct SQL queries to accomplish this. There is also something called tvExplorer under development that might provide good examples...
