MODx Site with the potential for thousands of users - suggestions please.

A client that I just completed a MODx site for has asked me to spec out a new project that will be a fairly small site but will require the ability to add tens of thousands (perhaps even hundreds of thousands) of users. MODx’s current interface for users would be a nightmare for this project so there is talk of trying to work with another CMS, which of course I don’t want to do.

I do remember hearing some talk about development ideas regarding user features and perhaps breaking it out into a module but I can’t find any formal reference to this topic.

Is there anything in the current pipeline that will extend the user and groups interface of MODx that would enable it to handle this level of load?

What are the potential bottlenecks or problems with using MODx for a site with a very large number of users?

Could this feature be expedited through development funding and if so, how long would it take to develop?

I have never built (or worked with) a site with this many potential users. Does anyone have an experience with, or knowledge of the interfaces and best practices required for user management on this level?

Nothing to comment on really ... I was inquiring as to what type of funding would be available to accelerate managing thousands of users w/in the context of the MODx Manager. I think we can all agree this is a bit not-so-fun right now.

Anyone else interested in tossing in some funding support for this type of project?

Perhaps everyone who needs or wants this feature could chip in part of the cost to see it developed.
