Docmanager and Document Manager?

Hello,

I already aked this question in "Module, Plugin & Snippet Usage", but since nobody there had an answer for me I hope someone here can give me a hint:

I am a little confused about the Docmanager 0.5.3b by ur001 found within the MODx resources and the Document Manager within MODx 0.9.5 in the modules tab. Is the second one an integration of the first one into MODx or are the two completely diffrent from each other?

Bogdan, I think Docmanager 0.5.3b by ur001 is a snippet to manage files on your webserver, e.g. .doc or -pdf downloads. Or even images. That means, it is a tool for your webusers, while the MODx built-in Docmanager is a tool to administer your MODx pages.

As far as I understood the Docmanager by ur001 is an API extension to be able to write to existing MODx documents or even create new ones. Since the Document Manager is also manipulating existing documents I thought it might be the same some how.

O man, I’m very sorry. Should have read carefully your post. In my reply I had Susan Ottwells wonderful snippet "DocMan" in mind, see this thread. It’s a kind of download manager, but has never reached the MODx repository.

Regarding your question, I suppose that ur001’s Docmanager is obsolete since MODx 0.95. But I’m not sure.

ur001’s Docmanager is not obsolete yet, 0.9.7 will offer api for the functions that ur001’s Docmanager does, but 0.9.6 don’t yet. I’m not sure if Docmanager still works in 0.9.6, but I would guess that it will work.

yes, ur001’s Docmanager is basically an API to manage documents (i.e web pages).
It has basic methods to create a document, assigning/getting its fields/TV values, deleting the document, duplicating, etc. I’ve been testing it on 0.9.5 with success. I assume it’s fine as well with 0.9.6.
