After 3 years of modx I ended up liking this functionality because users don’t know what they are doing and can easily mess everything.
Although this is cool it’s kind of hard to manage and style. Most of the clients will abuse this functionality and break the site, so in real life is not that usable.
exactly my thoughts when i saw the silverstripe screencast!
having the opportunity to add mutiple image-, or file-TVs on the fly, is really useful though

If I couldn’t choose Revo, I’d choose Evo. tongue

I didn’t *have to* chose another CMS, yet I switched from ModX to ProcessWire for my project. I like simplicity, and for now I’m able to do everything I did with ModX. Templating works the same, I can organize my files as "chunks" and "snippets" if I need, and it’s all simple php.

I’ve never heard of ProcessWire. Thanks for introducing it to me! Looks intriguing and it looks like you just need to be somewhat comfortable in PHP with the templating ( http://processwire.com/api/templates/).

Have you pretty much solely switched to ProcessWire? If so, what were the biggest tipping points (whether it’s from a primarily a designer standpoint or a developer standpoint or both)? I’d love to see a quick comparison if you’re inclined and have a few minutes.

I’d choose NO CMS at all then.

Thanks for the helpful related threads, mrhaw. You’re always super helpful too in the forums. After my research and opinion gathering (for what it’s all worth), I continue to cling to my love affair teddy bear that is MODx (Evo for now). To be a broken record, I really just wish you could have a draft/publish and/or versioning. I would imagine that’s some pretty sophisticated functionality for just about any CMS though...?

After 3 years of modx I ended up liking this functionality because users don’t know what they are doing and can easily mess everything. A solution to allow users to add multiple elements of the same type is http://www.kunane.com/modx/multi-image-tv.html

Holy crap! I wish I ran across this long ago... can’t wait to check it out. Is there anything like this for other TVs? I’ve always wanted to (at minimum, visually) group TVs into groups for the client when they’re editing a resource (instead of: e.g. "Callout 1 Headline", "Callout 1 Subheadline", "Callout 1 Copy", "Callout 1 URL"). Right or wrong, for images in a gallery on my last project I actually used child resources as the images within a gallery. Although the main purpose there was so that it the gallery could expand and contract... now that I think about again. Dat’s why the name changed to resources right!? smiley

Just another thought why MODx is not only the most flexible system CMF but also most friendliest one (not even mentioning the community), that its tags systems is very simple.

                      You’re a designer, then the [+chunkTags+] / [[$chunkTags]] is your friend.
You’re a developer, then the [!snippetTags!] / [[!snippetTags]] is your best friend.
                      You’re a undeniable-underrated-geek, then the module/cmp + APIs is your sandbox.

While others need you to complete the OOP book, MODx still excepts PHP-noob that just been introduced with <?php echo ’Hello World’; ?>, and start quickly their very first own website.

MODx is great, but knowing how to use it well makes it perfect!
