That’s very odd, there should be 9 default settings that show up when you do that. I see you’re also missing tree_default_sort (though that won’t affect NewsPublisher).
Try typing hidemenu and also hidemenu_default in the search box.
If it’s really not there, try an upgrade install and see if it gets set.
If not, click on the "Create New Setting" button and create a setting with the following values (type carefully - some are case-sensitive):
key: hidemenu_default
Name: setting_hidemenu_default
FieldType: Yes/No
Namespace: core
Area Lexicon Entry: site
Value: 0 or 1 ( your choice)
Description: setting_hidemenu_default_desc
The value sets whether new docs will have their "hide from menus" checkbox checked or not by default.
BTW, which exact version of Revo do you have (it’s at the upper left of the Manager screen)?
It may be the version of Modx I am running - 2.0.4.
I had a look into the upgrade but I thought it might offer more headaches than needed as after I get this last little hiccup sorted out the site is 100%.
Is it worth going through the upgrade? I’ve already made a few mistakes due to my inexperience that makes me a little concerned that I might do more harm than good.
I will be back working on this tomorrow (I’m in Aus) and hopefully the creation of the hidemenu_default sorts out my issues.
I still wonder if I wouldn’t be better off trying the form customisation - I have a chunk with two template variables working together that I think might have a problem being updated via the NewsPublisher method.
Thanks again for your help BobRay, very much appreciated.
I’ve upgraded to 2.0.6 and I now see ’hidemenu_default’ and the other options you mentioned.
I have made a little progress but things are still not as they should be.
I have tried writing this button into two of the pages that I need edited (there will be approximately 5 different pages in total that need editable TVs), and on one of the pages, I am seeing an edit button that appears whilst the site is loading, but then disappears once the page is fully loaded.
If I click on this button while I can still see it, it takes me to the NewsPublisher page. When I go to edit either of these values I click ’submit’, only to have the following error message:
Sorry . . . There were one or more problems with your submission:
Missing field: pagetitle.
Missing field: content."
In addition, one of my TVs is for an image that needs to act as a weblink. I have achieved this and made it editable from within the Manager console using a chunk, but the NewsPublisher does not prompt an upload window for this image. Does this mean my client would need to log into the Manager console in order to upload the image before being able to select is via NewsPublisher?
It seems like it might be simpler to go back to my original plan for hiding the tabs I don’t want the client to see via Form Permissions... This NewsPublisher option is proving tougher than I had hoped for.
The default value for the &required parameter is `pagetitle, content`
You need to add &required=`` to override that.
I’m not sure about the disappearing button. Add &debug=1 to the button tag and see what the button says.
As for the image TV, it’s not a trivial job (at least not for me) to provide both an image upload function and an image browser to select from the uploaded images on the server. It’s on the roadmap, but I don’t think it will happen anytime soon.
