    Hello folks,

I am still a novice, so pls bear w/ me on very basic question.

I have used MODx 1.0.4 to create my basic website on a live site. As I need to learn Wayfinder more to make myself more proficient in MODx, I am setting up an evironment based on Otienos’s Wayfinder Creation Guide. As he advises I should set up a local server to exercise his tutorial, I have installed XAMPP (C:\xampp\) on my PC, and both Apache and MySqul are running fine.

Now I am encountering a problem as I try to install MODx 1.0.4 according to the MODx 1.0.2 Basic Installation Guide.

I copied the unzipped modx-1.0.4 folder as follows.

    C:\modx-1.0.4\

Then I opened MS-IE 9 and entered the following link info in the URL field to run it.

    c:\modx-1.0.4\install\index.php

An error message came up, saying

"Windows cannot find ’C:\modx-1.0.4\install\index.php’. Check the spelling and try again."

    The spelling is correct.

Could someone kindly help me overcome this hurdle?

    Thanks in advance.
    Ken

I copied the unzipped modx-1.0.4 folder as follows.
        C:\modx-1.0.4\
You have to place your MODx directory as a subdirectory of [tt]C:\xampp\htdocs\[/tt] (not of the root [tt]C:\[/tt] ),
        so it will be [tt]C:\xampp\htdocs\modx-1.0.4\[/tt]
Then the mentionend [tt]http://localhost/modx-1.0.4/install/[/tt] will start the installer.

This video tutorial might help: http://codingpad.maryspad.com/2009/11/16/install-modx-cms-screencast/

I show how to do it on Wampserver, but the concept is the same on Xampp

Thank you for your help. I follows this quoted instructions to put MODx-1.0.4 in the right sub-directory, then ran the Apache and MySql and did http://localhost/modx-1.0.4/install/.

Then I got the following error message:

It looks like you’re not running XAMPP, you’re running IIS.

Well, actually, you’re running both, but IIS is grabbing the request before XAMPP and Apache can see it.

              Two options

              1. Disable IIS somehow.

              2. Uninstall XAMPP and move the site under the IIS web root (whatever it is).

Personally, I would do number 1 unless you’re using IIS already for something else.

                Hi BobRay,

                Thank you for your advice.

I went in the MS Config, disabled the IIS in the service list, rebooted the system, activated Apache & MySql, then entered <http://localhost/modx-1.0.4/install/>.

I am getting the same error message.

I am not aware of having IIS installed by myself, but as far as I know, [MS Config] > [Service list] is the only place I see IIS. Is there another place in the system where another IIS switch might be?

I also checked the directory and found "IIS Temporary commpressed files" and "iisstart.htm" in C:\inetpub sub-directory, and "IIS Manager" and "IIS Manager 6" in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\StartMenu. Are these two IIS Managers may be a culprit?
I don’t know how to properly disable these.
                Please advise.

                Thanks,
                Ken
