Howto install a module / Plugin

Hi after searching for a php alternative to a dnn framework i found this and am really impressed by the features as seemt to have the same as Dnn, with that aside i’m having difficulites in howto’s on adding modules from the repository and wondered if anyone has a couple of links as i notice even the module notes don’t usally tell ya how as they presume u know. Possible as a future enhancement would be to add a zip import for modules bit like a installer, uninstaller.

That is under development as we speak. Modules get installed by going to Modules->Manage Modules, then New Module. You need to copy/paste the code from the text file into the form field, and usually also upload auxiliary include files to the assets/modules folder.

Templates, snippets, chunks and plugins are handled in the same way, only from the Resources->Manage Resources menu item.

Most of the items in the Repository have fairly detailed instructions.

Thanks for the reply, I got most things working as am trying to convert a site over to the framework. Last thing am having a problem with is getting a gallery going i found MaxiGallery (Latest) and have tried on MODx 0.9.2.2 (rev 1923) i edit the page i want using the manager and can see Snippets i previous added the snippet and the code from the txt file before and click the snippet from the edit page and nothing happens. I can’t see no code added in the editor and wondered how they work.

The snippets tab just lists what snippets you have, it doesn’t actually do anything and is removed in 0.9.5. To have a snippet running on your document use [[SnippetName? &parameter1=`value` &parameter2=`value`...]] in your document. If you want/need to have the snippet running on every page request (eg. dynamic content that changes recent, or snippet that handles GET or POST data) call using [!SnippetName!] and it will run on every page request. Or you can set the whole page to be uncached.
