    Hi.

I’m quite new with modx, but I fell in love with it immediately. That’s because of it’s combo of simplicity and great power, something like Adobe Business Catalys I’m using (and getting tired of) for the last two years.

Now I do have one worry. It would seem natural that with modx Revolution there will be much more happening on the scene but I’m not seeing it. The blogs of modx bloggers except Jay’s are at least 1+ year old, there are fare more extras for Evolution than Revolution, web tuts, resources and books are Evolution related only. Showcase has more sites not working or far below what I would regard is presentation level for this great platform.
This all makes me wonder where modx will be at the beginning of next year. I’m starting a new business and I decide to ditch ABC for modx and I’m keeping my eyes wide open on my platform of chioce.

Once again, I’m newbie and I don’t know the usual community vibe around modx, maybe it’s more on the quiet side. Please tell me that it is ;-)

Anyhow, I wish all the best for the team and for this community.

    Cheers,

The reason that there are more examples, addons and evolution sites is because evolution has been developed for a long time now, revolution on the other hand is the next gen Modx.

Revolution has not been around very long and has been completely re written from the ground up, I agree theres not as many addons etc for it as evolution but in the future there will be once the community has got their head round all the new ways of doing things.

That said, if something doesn’t exist in Revolution you have a fantastic team / Community that are always happy to help and I’ve yet to see no solution to something.

Revo is one of the most powerful platforms I’ve come across that doesn’t take a degree in computer science to be able to work it.

Once you start playing with it you’ll start to understand how things work. Revolution is the future of CMF’s and it wont be long until every addon you could ever want is just 1 click away in the packet manager.

Great post and helps us keep things in perspective very much. We’re here and have been crazy busy over the last 6 months working on some important things that should propel Revo as a platform (while still maintaining Evo mind you) for years to come. More on that soon.

What’s the benefit of using modx versus other main CMS engines -- eg joomla?

Ease of customization, especially in site design. MODx does not lock you into any kind of structure, plain HTML pages are used as the template for HTML pages, you can specify what kind of structure you want from table-based HTML layout to raw xml.

Modifications to core processing functionality can be made without modifying the core files at all. Extensions are easy to create, both for the front-end and the back-end. MODx - MODular, eXtensible. Your imagination is the only limit.

And the forum community is patient and friendly.

Just to throw in my two cents, I think there’s a huge bottleneck of folks heavily invested in Modx Evolution who are stuck there pending a solid migration tool to Revolution. Our entire college is running out of Evolution and we love it, but the lack of a clear migration path has me sitting on my hands. I’m sure I’m not alone. Once we can get on to the new code base, I expect there will be a significant surge in Revolution support and development.
