    Hi all

I have just tried to upgrade a site from 2.0.4 to 2.0.6. First up I’m not sure if skipping a version is considered good practice but I didn’t think it would hurt. Maybe someone could put me right if it isn’t?

I have uploaded all the new files but have taken care not to copy over config.inc.php or the core/components directory. I was under the impression (although the documentation is pretty lightweight if I am honest) that I should just run a new set up by navigation to the setup folder and choosing to upgrade. The problem I have is that the page is completely blank.

I can still log in to the admin area of the website but I am getting the usual ’Config file still writable!’ and ’Installer still present’ warnings.

My website is still working so what is the crack? What could I have done wrong?

    Any help much appreciated.

Slight update. I have re-loaded all the files and now navigating to the /setup folder just redirects me to the front page of my website. Please does anyone have any ideas? The documentation says this should be a cakewalk! Do I need to upgrade to .5 and then .6?

Should I be replacing my config file perhaps? Anyone?

Fixed it. The issue was my .htaccess file. It would be good to make it clear that you may have to delete this and then upload a fresh ht.access file for upgrade before renaming it to .htaccess again for friendly URLs etc.

That’s odd; I’ve certainly never had to do that. huh

Fair enough but that’s what cured it for me. It was because it was redirecting when I hit the setup folder rather than running me through setup that I finally surmised it was something to do with the .htaccess. Maybe don’t put it in the main upgrade instructions but it could be one for the troubleshooting section.

              Happy Holidays everyone.

Again, unless you are accessing a file or folder that does not exist, the rewrite rules should not affect setup at all. Perhaps you had some customized rewrite rules or conditions that were problematic.

FWIW, I always turn off FURLs and rename .htaccess before upgrading a production site, just to take that issue out of the equation.

You might be right and I honestly can’t remember if I changed that .htaccess file or not. All I think I used was on there was a 301 from non-www. to www. and FURLs. Oh well, it is fixed now but if BobRay is doing it and I have experienced then I would still add as a footnote on troubleshooting an upgrade. It can’t actually hurt can it?
