I have been testing modx against another cms and like it so far. However, I upgraded my install yesterday and now can’t login to the manager, I keep getting a ’wrong password’ error. I have clicked the ’Forgot my password’ link, typed in my email address and clicked ’Send’, receiving the ’email sent’ message. Never get an email, password still doesn’t work.

I have gone into the database and attempted to re-create my password by deleting the value in the ’*_manage_users’ table but the present md5 value and the value I was going to replace it with are exactly the same. This means I am using the correct password but can’t login. I have also checked the value under ’blockeduntil’ and it’s 0.

So..... I’m kind of at a loss on what to do here. There any real content on the site yet so I could just wipe it all and do a fresh install, but it makes me really hesitant to upgrade the install again. Will the same problem re-appear? Can anyone shed some light on why this might be happening?

I’m running modx on my Macbook Pro under Apache2 with PHP 5.x and MySQL 5.0.77.

I would try wipe the assets/cache folder and upload that fresh - try log in, if not working - run the installer (upload the folder) again.

I tried re-uploading the assets/cache folder but still couldn’t login. I ended up wiping the directory and reinstalling modx, so I don’t want to re-run the installer. It’s working now so it must have been something the installer would have fixed. Good to know for the future.

On another note, I wasn’t able to get Friendly URLs working right away. After comparing the htaccess file in my 0.9.x install, I noticeced the Options +FollowSymlinks was uncommented, so I commented it out (this differed from my 0.9.x install’s htaccess file). Started working immediately. Simple, but could give headaches to those not used to editing htaccess files. Perhaps a note about this in the 1.0.0 sticky?

By the way, the new Manager skin looks and works great!

          Nice! smiley
I didn’t understand what you did though! grin
Did you just re-transfer MODx folder without install folder?
And now it worked = probably corrupt files!?

            Sorry about the confusion.
What I ended up doing was deleting the /modx folder (where my installation was) and just replacing it with a fresh download of 1.0.0. There must have been a corrupt file or something. Had I not replaced the upgraded 0.9.x install with a fresh 1.0.0 version, I would have tried running the installer to see if it fixed the issue, I just didn’t want it to wipe my existing database. So, hopefully I won’t run into this kind of thing again during the next upgrade.

On that note though, will you be able to upgrade a Modx 0.9.*/1.* install to the Modx Revolution or will ’porting’ the site to Revolution be required?

I’m now expieriencing this same problem. I can’t log into the manager, but I do see the quick edit plug in when navigating any of my pages. Please, I need to get my site back up and running. Any suggestions?

I really don’t want to deal with a fresh install as I don’t really know how to do that and keep my same database and everything.

Running install in upgrade mode won’t mess with your current content (though you should back up first, just to be careful). Just be sure not to let it install the sample site or any components that you’ve customized.

                • Also re-uploading just the manager folder won’t bother your site; unless you’ve got customized versions of some of the core or language files. Make sure you save a copy of your manager/includes/config.inc.php file, just in case something hiccups during the upload.

I tried to reinstall a couple of times, reuploading the manager files and rerunning the installation process. Didn’t work. I reverted back to 9.6.3 and was able to log back into the manager. Now it seems I can use the QE plugin with 9.6.3, neat. But I still want to upgrade, any other ideas?
                    • It sounds like you didn’t log out before upgrading as you shouldn’t see QE without a Manager session. I would suggest re-uploading files from a fresh archive and making sure you run the installer in upgrade mode after transferring files.
