Mootools and jQuery in the core distirbution?

Revo is open source. Distribute the code for free, sell your services. You’re not selling the code. Now if you make a commercially licensed Add-on that uses ExtJS, you need a license.

jQuery has a huge amount of momentum, gets better, faster and more capable over time, and has a huge, friendly developer community. It’s a great fit for Evo in my mind. Mootools is definitely more developer-centric, and thus would alienate a large base of Evo users, but it’s an amazing and awesome bit of code. I’d say Mootools is a hybrid between the intuitiveness and simplicity of jQuery and the power of ExtJS.

These are just my opinions and not the official MODx project line. While I admittedly have a bit of say in the MODx project, I’m certainly not the final decision-maker.

I think that a decision has to be taken as soon as possible.

I personally do not care which JS framework is encouraged by Modx but would make all the difference to know what is the direction.

I am a lot more familiar with Jquery but I also worked with mootools and knowing both will benefit me in the long run. I do not think any serious developer out there will mind learning something new. Actually I see no difference between Jquery and Mootools. They’re both a collection of API and Plugins.

As a plus for modx, I like the fact that I use Jquery on the frontend and Moootols on the backend. What I want for Christmas is a manager with the latest version of mootools or jquery

an update too mootools is planned for Evolution-1.1.0. Is this still in effect?

We’re not entirely sure what’s going to happen with the main library in MODx Evo. But, based on ManagerManager being written in jQuery, there’s probably some benefits to be seen from consolidating everything around jQuery. The 1.4 release coming next month should make that even more compelling.
