True true. I think I realized that as I was lying in bed thinking about this last night. wink
But can they delete from the frontend? I can’t seem to find a way to make that happen.

    Thanks for any ideas!

I know it’s an old thread, but I have the very same problem today and I am curious how you solved it ?

As far as I know, there is no web user deletion or editing ability, just the "newspublisher" snippet that will allow a web user to create a new document in a given folder. And QuickEdit requires a Manager login, and cannot create or delete documents.

That’s a big problem, the way permissions are handled today is somewhat of messy.

It means I have to create manager users with no manager access which are duplicates of web users... and on top of that, I’ll have to create as many groups as I have users... we sure have to change the current permission system... a nice ACL system would be great !

What we ended up doing was... (it was a long time ago, so I’ll post the real code later, but here’s what I think we did):

If the logged in user created the document, the snippet output a "Delete" link that would delete the document... I believe that was how we did it. I’ll double check and post the code later if anybody’s interested. I’m sure it wouldn’t be hard to verify some other criteria other than "created by" to output the link.

Yeah, though, I’d really love if the whole manager/web user distinction disappeared. I’m not sure it would help in this situation, but it’d be nice.

Thanks Brett, I would definitely have a use for your code if you have it handy ! One thing I’d like to do is only have user who created a document able to edit it...

True the manager/web distinction’s disparition won’t solve this, but a more granular permission matrix will. Right now, it’s Etomite inheritance... I am pretty sure the 1.0 branch will adopt a fundamentally different approach, though I am not sure which I trust our beloved (and most talented) dev team to make the right choice...

Right now, it’s a bit frustrating...

                David,

Could QuickEdit be easily modified to allow non-managers (or only certain groups) to use it? I haven’t looked into it as I haven’t run into this problem yet. But this might be a solution?

Give this a go. Luke coded it originally, so I’ll be pretty useless if you need any help.
Pretty simple though. Logged in manager user sees a "Delete" link on the front end if that logged in user actually created the page. It was coded for 0.9.1, and I don’t think it relies on any custom hacks, but I can’t guarantee it.

                    Hi David

Did you manage to get this working? I’m looking for something similar to this, where certain users would / could have certain rights, and create their own pages / content.

No I did not have the time to give this a try, pretty busy lately...
