Unable to view page if (management) Access Permissions set to "Site Admin Pages"

I need to set different document management permissions for different parts of the website, so that different editors can only edit the parts that they are supposed to.

My understanding was that the built-in "Site Admin Pages" resource group is intended to restrict page management permissions for a given page to allow only manager-users who are of type "Administrator" to be able to manage the page, but that choosing that setting shouldn’t have any effect on who can view the page (We don’t use web-users at all). Is that correct?

However, if I change the "Access Permissions" for a page (in this case, the site homepage), to "Site Admin Pages", what happens then is that if I try to view the page (either in a different window of the same browser, or a different browser altogether (where I am not logged-in to MODx)) I instead get what is presumably one of the built-in demo pages (I haven’t deleted these yet, in case we might need to learn from them in the future) saying:

Login to Enable to Comments
In order to comment on blog entries, you must be a registered user of OUR_SITE_TITLE. If you haven’t already registered, you can request an account.

(Our actual site title displays where it says OUR_SITE_TITLE in the preceding quote, of course.)

All the more puzzling, since we’re not using blogging, either.

Is this a bug, or have I misunderstood what the "Site Admin Pages" setting is for?

If need be, I could set up a new user/document-group combo for certain pages (there is no problem viewing pages whose manager access we have restricted to other groups that we have set up), but if this built-in setting can be used, then I might as well use it..

Site Admin Pages is installed for front-end blog posting when the full demo site is installed. It’s connected to the Site Admin web group. However, you can use it for manager group control as well; resource groups can go with either web groups or manager groups. If you’re going to use it with manager groups, you need to disconnect it from the web user group (Security -> Web Permissions, the third tab)

I have several custom pages to input various data on our volleybal teams (separate database) which I want to be private....
I made those pages part of a pagegroup (Intranet) and only registered (web)users can access it.
Several people will be using it, but they’re not going to be editing any pages and adding new pages etc. so I made them webuser.
However, I’m an Administrator, editing/managing the entire website.... and using "Intranet" pages too!
And I have one other Administrator too, which will be doing both.

Is it normal that when I’m only logged in on management end, I can’t access those pages from Intranet-pagegroup???? Not when that group is NOT linked to ANY management-user group (page summary says: CMS access open), and not when I link the pagegroup to the group with Administrators?

Now I have to log in twice each time, as a webuser and as a manager...

(I also tried to add all the pages of Intranet to the group Intranet2, and linked that to a Management-user group with Administrator’s in it, didn’t work, I still have to log in as a webuser, before I can access the pages..)

Any suggestions?

It shouldn’t work that way. Make sure that the pages are not in a Manager Resource Group if you don’t want them protected in the Manager.
