Should I wait Revolution or upgrade?

Hey guys!

I’m sure I won’t upgrade on my around 50 MODx websites running 0.9.3 and 1.0.2 but should I do it on some of them? When the Revolution is about to launch? Few months, about a year, more than a year? I tried to find any articles about that but didn’t find.

Your answer is clearly stated on the MODx website itself. Revo is beta. This means, you don’t upgrade your clients with it -yet.

You could port some sites locally (xampp) to get a hang over what’s new in Revo.

But for now upgrade your 0963 sites to EVO 1.0.3 (way more secure). EVO won’t be
replaced by Revo in a long time.

Oh, sorry - I might had explained my question bit poorly... My question was weather to upgrade to 1.0.3 or wait till Revolution’s stable version comes out and was just wondering approximately how long it could take (months, half a year, year, more than year?).

EVO 1.0.3 comes with security fixes and improvments!! Better safe than sorry...
The EVO branch will still co-exist with REVO in the coming years.

I won’t upgrade my client EVO sites to Revo unless:
1) They want something EVO can’t but REVO can. That means
I would even consider using REVO today - beta RC1.
2) I’ve reached the stage where I do most things way faster and simple in REVO.

When I have built some cool personal sites in Revo and the stable version is
released I will sure start new projects side by side with EVO projects.

oh, but Revo isn’t a beta any more but rc1

the websites in 096 and 102 I thought to leave as they are - if they’re been working fine so far why should they stop doing that:)

Because there are some known possible security vulnerabilities in them, and you can be sure the bad guys will be snooping for vulnerable versions.

If you’re upgrading across a wide version gap, I would suggest not uploading the snippets folder at all, and not upgrading the snippets in the installer.

I agree with Susan and mrhaw, I would recommend upgrading all pre 1.0.3 sites to 1.0.3. I also won’t be porting any Evo sites to Revo unless client requirements change in a major way that Evo can’t handle. But for new sites I’ll be sharing the load between evo and revo depending on requirements. But for anything pre-1.0.3, I would definitely upgrade to 1.0.3

1.0.3, definitely. There’s no easy upgrade path to Revolution and I don’t think there will be anytime soon.
