Hi, I’m hoping to get some feedback on building a product review website with Modx.

I’m a web designer, and a client recently contacted me in regards to a product review website. I’ve looked through available plugins/modules for Modx and other content management frameworks/systems (Drupal, Joomla, Wordpress), and the most comprehensive plugin appears to be Jreviews for Joomla - www.reviewsforjoomla.com.

I’m not very fond of working with Joomla, so I’m wondering about the feasibility of custom-developing something similar for Modx. Would you recommend Modx for a ratings and reviews website with user generated content? And what kind of development costs do you think I’ll be looking at? Any input is much appreciated.

    TIA, Megan.

      Hey!

we’ve just launched a kind of rating portal togehther with one of our clients: http://www.giftnavigator.com/
We implemented the whole site by using MODx, standard extras (getResource, Quip, etc.) and created some custom snippets.

        Hi Jakob,

Really nice job. Well done. One main feature of what we need is for users to be able to contribute content from the frontend. So with the site that you made, for example, users would need to be able to submit a new gift certificate, perhaps even suggest a new category, and this new certificate would be published pending admin approval/editing. I can’t quite wrap my head around how this would be done in Modx. Would you recommend Modx for something like this?

I would defenitly recommend to use MODx. It’s great because you can customize everything to your needs without modifing the core!

You could use the FormIt addon for creating resources via the frontend (via a custom hook).

Take a look at this thread: http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php?topic=54204.0

          Cheers,
          Jakob
