I have a client who needs to be upgraded from 0.9.6.1p2 to present so all the security holes can be patched up. Their ad engine was just infected a week or two ago and I would like to take preventative maintenance to make sure that doesn’t happen to their back-end site.
I need to go from 0.9.6.1p2 to current.
Do I need to upgrade in chucks or can I do a straight upgrade, also is it going to change the interface dramatically?
I really don’t want them to get hit and blame me for their lack of interest in maintenance.
You could download the site to a local XAMPP install and do the upgrade there. The client could see it if they’re local and you’d see if there are any problems before updating the remote site.
I did that exactly that update on a site with no trouble, but a few people have run into minor hitches. I don’t think the client will be thrown by the UI changes. The only significant one that could cause any trouble is the change in terminology on Resources and Elements. You might want to prepare them for that.
The only thing they do is edit pages, showtimes for a movie theater.
