Database Connection Failed [SOLVED]

I have never had a problem installing earlier versions of modx on to my local server but having tried to install latest version 1.0.4 seem to be unable to get the database to connect. Any suggestions? This is what comes up after having verified connections - this is step 4.

Please check the database login details and try again.

I wonder whether I would be better off going over to Revolution?

Stroke of inspiration and have suddenly come up with answer - my password contained symbols eg £ $ and these were not being accepted, when I changed to just numbers and letters it all went through! Very happy now...
