    Hi

I have used modx for a few of my clients before but I have a new project to work on.

I want to offer simple 4 page sites, where the client can log on and edit the content via quickedit etc.
The client should be able to choose from a list of templates for their industry.
The client should be able to have their own mysite.com domain.

    So a few questions...

    1. Is this something modx can do?
    2. Should this be setup on one modx installation or a separate one for each site?
    3. Can all the template files be stored in one location?
    4. What would be the best way to link individual domains to the sites?

Any suggestions would be gratefully received!

I was about to suggest using Revo, as multisite is not hard to set up. But then you mentioned QuickEdit, and to my knowledge, there’s no front-end editor for Revo yet. (This doesn’t bother me, as I never use QE).

You can use one admin, and segregate each user’s stuff (again, I’m speaking of Revo here) from the others. Templates are stored in the database, and yes, they can all be administered from one system. And the files used in templates, like CSS and images, could be anywhere in one system’s file system. I don’t know if there’s a way to limit a user to 4 pages, though.

Multisite can be done in Evo, some do it using various snippets, there are forum posts that allude to it.

        Thanks Samba.

So without QE would each user have to edit through the manager?

I’m thinking the site tree will become massive and confusing to what users can edit.

Yes, clients would have to edit in the manager. And I believe you can set up the user to only see one "Context", which is where their site is. So that would solve the "overwhelm problem", maybe.

Oh, I just thought of a way to limit the person to 4 documents, maybe. You could give the user 4 blank documents, and then mark each document as editable by that particular web user. But I’m still not sure if they could still add more documents. Maybe if they log in as that user, they can only see those?

User management is a part of a system that I find highly boring and irritating to deal with, so I do it as little as I can. smiley So maybe someone who actually knows about Revo user management will chime in.

There has been feedback about Revo that the user permission system is tricky to understand. I believe that most people are in agreement on that, and it should improve soon. Evo’s user permission scheme is not overly easy, either.
