phpmailer version

Is there a reason Evo still ships with an outdated phpmailer (1.73)? Maybe (backwards) compatibility or something?

It appears there are 2 versions of the phpmailer class. One is php4 compatible and one php5 upwards. Even if we decide to keep evo php4 compatible (*) there is an updated version available (2.0.4). PHP5 and upwards can use 5.2

(*) Which i think is completely unnecessary, just my 0.02$

EDIT: I have just solved an issue i had with eForm not sending mail, just by updating phpmailer

I’ve opened an issue for this. The difference in PHP versions is a complication, though. Obviously Revo requires PHP 5, but Evo works fine with PHP 4.

Thanks. That’s true, that’s why included some info about it for debating and also why i hesitated to open a request just yet

I know this is just one little thing compared to the Evo distro in its entirety. I realize it has been a virtue of Evo that it can run on both php4 and php5. Maybe it is even a ’unique selling point’ in fancy english

Looking at the calendar however, I don’t see the point anymore.

I think it’s definitely worth opening a ticket for this, Mr Dutchy, regardless of how we proceed with it.
We still want to maintain PHP 4 compatibility for the time being, but for 1.1, Evo may adopt a way of supporting PHP 5 code while maintaining PHP 4 compatibility.
In any case, it’s a great idea to keep this library as current as possible.
