Is building a MODx built Magazine community website too ambitious

This Xhtml template by Orman Clark, really inspires me.

Could MODx be used to make this layout functional?
It looks very complex to get wired up, but a step at a time, get’s ’er done!

Does anybody see anything that would be tricky to get working the way this is setup with categories, etc.?

Shouldn’t be too difficult to get that setup. I’ve done a few similar sites and as you say one step at a time.

I’ve taken quite a few static templates and converted them over to Modx

see http://www.elainedeed.com/ this was the minibuzz template

Thanks for the encouragement.
MiniBuzz, looks like it came from Themeforest also then huh?
Nice job on that one.

Diggin’ a little deeper I see Orman’s template imports and uses 960.gs, making the grid layout easy to work with.

I’m afraid if I invest the $12 bucks I’ll abandon the idea. Probably start with somea freebie template first and see how it goes.

Yes have bought a few off Theme Forrest - I meant to add that in the first response!

My blog is a themeforest template (HTML version of a Wordpress template, actually): http://thrash.me/

Awesome, thanks Ryan. I don’t think I realized you had a blog. I’ll have to add it to my feeds.

The thing on designing a site for yourself is, you get so wrapped up in the "look".
I’ve found it hard to live up to my own expectations, but I can easily knock out a logo or even skin an existing site template.
So I’m a starving designer then, lol.
Thanks, again all.
