Since I only have one homepage, it’s not logical or efficient to create a template for a layout that’s only used on one page.

Yet, if I want to give my Homepage custom fields for my client to edit, then I’m forced to create a template.

Would make more sense, I think (I’m still a newbie), to allow TV’s on Documents, not just Templates.

    THANKS!!!

my other option is to make it a chunk, but a TV seems the more appropriate element for user-editing, than a chunk.

Not entirely sure what you mean. You will need a template anyway for your site, and if you need extra/custom fields you would create TVs for those fields and then assign them to the template and reference them by their tags in your template. Does this make sense?

You can place your TVs not only on your template but also directly in resources in the content-field or nested in other TVs.

Tell me more about putting TVs on content field of a resource. Where is the value of the TV edited?

you mean a template is required for every document? even documents which are unique layouts, not repeated on any other page? if true, that would seem to encourage an excessive number of templates, and also contrary to the purpose of a template.

              thanks
