( Just some thoughts )
Any package installed through the Package Manager, will have permissions only for apache locking ftp users out...
I’m trying to install a plugin for TinyMCE which requires files to be uploaded to the assets/components/tinymce/jscripts/tiny_mce/plugins folder.... which my ftp user has no access to.
So then I’ve tried to upload the files through the Manager in an archive, looking for an extract feature which I couldn’t find.... should it be there, or was it intentionally left out?
Anyway, I tried to use the file manager of DirectAdmin (sort of cPanel my hosts uses) however their extract feature is giving me errors (nothing specific unfortunately, but I’m imagining it’s having permission troubles as well.
I can’t remember having trouble like this with Evolution, but then again - you didn’t have a two-click package install there either...
I’m expecting there will be a lot of people asking how to solve the permission problems for installed packages, and I’m wondering what options there are to avoid this from the start...
Things I know of:
- Setting the configuration to CHMOD new folders/files to 777 (doesn’t sound too safe)
- Installing phpsuexec or suPHP (for non webserver savvy people, this may seem daunting.. it does for me)
What else can you do to avoid this limitation?
Make sure your PHP user is writing in a group that your FTP user can access.
