In the case of tabs, where would the Page Settings section for Resources go? On a tab on the right side of the screen?

The page settings could go on a collapsable panel smiley

I like tabs personally. I like knowing where my click targets are going to be. With the current accordian, they are always changing position depending on what’s shown. I usually end up clicking to close to open element, waiting (takes a while in Firefox 3.5.2 Mac), then clicking, and waiting again to expand. A simple show/hide tab would be more performant in addition to being easier to click IMHO.

I believe that the page settings belong on the right, as I mentioned in my other post (http://modxcms.com/forums/index.php/topic,20512.msg237223.html#msg237223). I think having the page settings on the left is not only unintuitive, but also quite unnecessary. One of the things that has made the MODx Evo manager much better than most CMSs is the that it is so easy to use--and I believe the central feature that made it so usable was the fact that the document tree was *always* visible.

I have to agree. I need the tree a lot more often than I need the Page Settings tab and I’m annoyed when it’s not there.

I would have absolutely no qualms with moving them back to the main panel - they were moved left because of earlier community comments on the alphas to move them there.

But I’m not moving them again when the community pendulum decides to go back to the left. tongue

That said, it makes the JavaScript much more simpler to have the Page Settings on the right. We’ll tackle this next week.

Excellent! That should make things more comfortable for people coming from Evo too.

I’m constantly using Quick Update and Quick Create with Snippets and Chunks while editing a Resource and having the Page Settings in the way in the tree was driving me nuts.

I am surprised that no one has voted for the accordion style navigation on the left. With about 3/4 in favor of tabs, that looks like a good direction to go. Can anyone think of any problems down the road with changing the left side to tab-based navigation?

The only problems I can imagine would be (1) if there was a need for more than 3 tabs, or (2) if certain languages have very long words for Resources, Elements, and Files. I don’t expect #1 to happen and I think #2 would be easy to deal with.
