    Greetings...

    Long time listener-first time caller....

I am attempting my first install of modx and all lights were green until... "MODx found your memory_limit to be below the recommended setting of 32M..."

I manually changed the php.ini file of php4 to 32M...php5 was already set to 128M.

The problem is that modx is not recognizing the change.

    Help?

    Thanks.

If you’re running PHP as an Apache module, you need to restart the Apache server for changes to the php.ini file to take effect.

        Hi Susan...

Thanks for the quick reply, but I’m on a VPS w/no boot option.

        Any other options?

        Thanks again.

If you are on a VPS you can certainly restart your Apache. Don’t get your servers confused here; you’ve got the physical server (Linux? in my case Solaris), then on that you have the web server (Apache, thttpd, nginx, whatever), your MySQL server, probably an FTP server and an SMTP mail server (sendmail, qmail etc)

You can use the VPS control panel to restart Apache, or if you have ssh root access, use "apachectl graceful" to restart the server without cutting off any in-process requests (it won’t take any new requests but will finish existing ones)

            Does MODX run on php5?

(I have put a support ticket in re: restart for php4)

            Thanks again...

Yes, in fact if you have the option you should go with 5, since more and more third-party snippets and whathaveyou are using PHP 5 features. There are a few bugs showing up with the latest PHP 5.3, but nothing serious.

Perfect...the default memory limit is 128M.

Wish me luck, I’m going in...

                  Like Butter!

Thanks so much...now its Cinfiguration Check errors. They seem self-explanatory, just curious- is 6 or 7 page errors right out of the box "normal"?

Again, thanks for making time to help others...
