    1. How to set an object (or just variable) in cache and then get it?
    2. Can I set the lifetime in cache for this single variable?
    3. What is the right way to make crossdomain http request and get response (Google, Flickr API for example) or should I use the PHP cURL?
    4. Which format is "more native" for MODx (JSON, XML, serialized PHP)?
    5. What is the best way to adding ExtJS plugins to use in mgr?

I would be grateful for any feedback. Thank you.

      2. Can I set the lifetime in cache for this single variable?
Yes; it’s the third parameter of the add(), replace(), and set() methods available from the $modx->cacheManager.

Not sure there is a right way; a little beyond the scope of a forum reply, but in general, it depends on the target.

      4. Which format is "more native" for MODx (JSON, XML, serialized PHP)?
None; use what is best suited for the task at hand.

I’ll defer to splittingred on this one.

What do you mean by ’ExtJS plugins’? I’ll need to know what you mean by this before we can proceed.

Also, I do realize there’s a lack of documentation on MODExt, the ExtJS implementation for Revo. Mostly this is because I was worried about the ExtJS3.0 release, which was supposed to happen before Revo RC1 was released - which it did. We just recently in SVN upgraded to 3.0, and I wanted to hold off on documentation until after we upgraded and could get some stability to the code first.

Your best place for looking at how to use MODExt in Custom Manager Pages is probably looking at components that already do it, like in the Revolution modx-components SVN repository:

          http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/modx-components/

And also looking at the code in the current manager.

Wow, extjs 3.0 will be part of revolution. That is an awesome news!!

I must hold until september to start playing with it and the last svn for revolution, can’t wait to play with the new charting capabilities. We can imagine a lot of powerful back end possibilities.

Sorry for the hijack but would you guys use ExtJs on the frontend?

I personally use Jquery or Mootools so would be nice to know how ExtJs compares with them on the frontend.

              Thx

Revolution will use Ext for the backend; you are free to use it in the front-end should you choose. I hear Ext 3.0’s Core is pretty fast, but I can’t speak with any experience in using it in the front-end.

While this is for Evolution, it’s not much different than it would be for the front-end of Revolution.

I think discussion is about Ext-Core (http://extjs.com/products/extcore/) vs. MooTools/jQuery, doubt anyone would use full ExtJS for their public sites (yet?)...

Extjs is used on some front end public website (see official extjs website for links), ansd i’m pretty sure that it is used on front end on non-public website.
