We’ve added a new tutorial on using custom database tables in your Revolution 3rd-Party Components.

This goes pretty in detail into the process (which is actually rather short), and elaborates a lot on how xPDO’s XML schema system and model packages work.

    http://modxcms.com/about/blog/shaun-mccormick/storefinder.html

It is only Part 1 - which covers the model creation; Part 2 will finish the case scenario and use the model in a snippet. Most of the process is learned in Part 1 - the second part is mainly for those still interested in best practices when creating snippets.

Nice tutorial, good job! Great to see some tutorials starting to pop out..

Just one question.. The revolution tutorials are starting to scatter in different places, here’s few examples:

      - In Revolution crucible documentation, (another tutorial with this subject in modxcms.com blog btw)
      - In crucible blog
      - In modxcms.com blog
      - Probably more in forums and in screencasts etc..

To me it seems that it can be quite confusing for beginners when they don’t know where to look at for the latest info. It would be good that the tutorials would be all in one place.. or is there some reasoning behind this? Or at least some place, like the more resources part at bottom of this crucible page where everything would be listed. And I’d also suggest that the "out of date" tutorials would be made offline for now and updated to current information if it’s stable to do so and then publish back in some common place.

To me, a good common place for all tutorials would be the Revolution crucible documentation area. I’d create a Tutorials page there and collect a list of all the various crucible tutorial articles in one page and link that page in the Revolution Table of Contents page. You could still do blog posts about these tutorial articles, but link to the actual article from the blog post.

Or am I totally wrong here... What do you think?

I’ve been expecting something like this to show up soon. People are going to start getting very confused over which version’s tutorials they are looking at. I’m trying to remember to make sure the very first paragraph of any tutorials/articles I write specifically state what version I’m writing about.

@doze, I think you mean Confluence, the wiki, vs. Crucible, which is the peer code review software built on top of Fisheye.

Regardless, yes it is a little scattered ATM, but Confluence will be the central location for documentation and tutorials moving forward. We will be using the blogs and forums to point at the official Confluence documentation.

Yea, sorry, I meant Confluence. Good!
