    Hi

I have uploaded, unzipped the beta folder through the Cpanel filemanager at my hosting provider startlogic.com.
Went to my setup folder: http://earthwindcreation.com/modxbeta/setup/index.php?s=set

    ** First error**

FATAL ERROR: MODx Setup cannot continue.

    * MODx requires the pdo_mysql driver when native PDO is being used and it does not appear to be loaded.

--- I did a search for this error on this forum and the solution I found in a thread was:

You need to use the PDO emulation, open up index.php and find this:

    Code:

/* [OPTIONAL]: for forcing emulated PDO when required native PDO drivers are not available */
    /* define(’XPDO_MODE’, 2); */

    then uncomment that define.

-- I opened the index.php at the root, made the adjustments and uploaded the index.php file again.

    ** second error **

FATAL ERROR: MODx Setup cannot continue.

Make sure your PHP session configuration is valid and working.

--- I chatted with my hosting provider and they had to send the matter on to the senior tech person. Where I will receive a reply through the ticket support system within 24-48 hours.--

    **

I’m on my getting closer, and will create a post on my progress. Or if you want my progress report another way let me know.
    Feedback is appreciated.

Though it may work, I do not recommend running Revolution without the PDO extension and PDO_mysql driver properly installed. As for the session issues, you’ll need to work that out with your host, unless that is a false error related to the missing PDO_mysql driver.

Thank you OpenGeek for your reply!

Startlogic support took a look at the error. Here is their response.

"We apologize for any inconvenience this has caused you. Unfortunately, we do not support ’pdo_mysql’ in our server."

I went back and commented define(’XPDO_MODE’, 2); */ as it orginally was.

I am now getting the original error again.

I do not know how to continue. Anyone have any ideas?

        Thanks.

You’ll have to leave that line uncommented - setting XPDO_MODE to 2 makes it so it emulates PDO when it’s not available, which is what you want since your host is dumb.

Basically they just sent you an email saying that because they’re too lazy to configure it. PDO is quite stable.

You’ll have to figure out what’s going on with the sessions, or otherwise, it’s probably not going to work on your host, since they seem pretty inflexible with upgrading. You might look into your contract with that host and see what you can get them legally to do on upgrading.

For reference, Drupal 7 will require PDO too I believe. Zend Framework requires it. So it’s only a matter of time...

              Info from Startlogic support:

"We also have plans of integrating that service although we don’t have any time frame yet. We will inform you regarding any update through the important system notice on your control panel."

              --

I uncommented the line define(’XPDO_MODE’, 2); */ in the index.php file and am again receiving the error:

FATAL ERROR: MODx Setup cannot continue.

              --

What do I do now? Give up for now and go with Evolution until Startlogic decides to install PDO_MYSQL or....?

Or try some more of the advice given here:

Another reply I received from Startlogic:

"Unfortunately, for security reason we do not support ’pdo_mysql’ on our server."

Since the mysql pdo drivers have no security issues, this looks suspiciously like a boilerplate "Unfortunately, for security reason we do not support ’whatever-you-are-asking-about’ on our server."
