I am in need of a fitting environment for a project that will need to go live around about the beginning of October.
The project will have CMS elements whereby I can add pages with downloads etc. etc. I’ve done this numerous time in the past.

A large portion of the work however is an application which allows users to compare the criteria for a particular type of software with what the market has to offer, which then outputs the conformance. This application was created by my predecessor is available http://www.softselect.de/recherche/?rs=en_matching.php?changeLan=en

It needs a lot of love. The queries are extremely bloated and there is an awful lot of room for optimisation. As you can imagine from the link, a lot of variables and queries are flying.

I am currently indecisive between using Revolution (will there be a version without "beta" by October) and CodeIgniter which I have used extensively in the past, but doesn’t have a "sound" CMS OpenSource as yet.

    http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/PHP+Coding+in+MODx+Revolution%2C+Pt.+III states:

Next, we’ll talk about how to create your own schemas and add them dynamically into the MODx framework, without having to modify the core.

which sounds like what I need to get things off the ground, but as far as I can see, doesn’t exist as yet? smiley

    Thanks for any input.

You can do this pretty easily - we’ve got tutorials to be done in the pipeline - through XML schemas and the map files generated from them. It’s hard to give you more info without knowing exactly what it is you’re trying to accomplish. If it’s just this criteria switcher, this can be done pretty easily through a custom 3PC (3rd Party Component), using some snippets, and a custom manager page or two.
