      Cipa,

Thanks for testing, and for being persistent in the installation process. We really appreciate it.

As for your process, a few notes:

      1. We are aware of the PHP memory limit issue; it seems the checks we built it aren’t firing on all servers. We are working on debugging that further.
      2. The security process is being heavily documented, and we hope to have much more information on that coming soon.
      3. Apologies for having to have you go to SVN (you’ll like it better in the long run, though, trust me), but that’s really the crux of beta testing. If you want the fixes, you have to go to SVN. Kudos for having the initiative to learn command line. I recommend using PHPEclipse and its SVN counterpart, Subclipse; it makes development+SVN easy - if you can deal with the long setup process to get it there.
      4. You probably couldn’t select upgrade because the SVN checkout probably erased your prior config files.
      5. We hope to make the installation process a little more user-friendly, with greater checks, and maybe even a link to installation documentation, in the next few betas.

Again, thanks for diving into the testing process. Let us know of any bugs you find, and we’ll do our best to tackle them. Also, if you have suggestions to make the testing process easier, we’re definitely all ears and would love to hear them.

      Thanks,
      Shaun

        Hi,

I’m tring to create my own svn for modx-revo:

        1. svnadmin create /Users/cipa/Svn/modx-revo
[the svn folder structure was created]
        2. svn import modx-revo http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/tattoo/tattoo/branches/revolution/ -m "First Import"
I am asked for username and pass. I use my regular user name and pass without luck
svn: MKACTIVITY of ’/svn/tattoo/!svn/act/40f4638b-ca33-4e74-9cd8-6b5fb84157a8’: authorization failed (http://svn.modxcms.com)

Do I need an account to make use on import? I’m thinking import is for the developers and people checking in new changes.

So I created a context called "staging".
The context has a simple page that I cannot Preview unless I move the page in the web context.

import? You cannot create your own copy in our SVN repository. Why would you want to create a new copy of it anyway? All you want to do is svn checkout and then svn update when you want to get the latest stuff... huh

Have you created a plugin to switch contexts or another virtual host/index.php to serve that context? Contexts are advanced features and you’ll need to read about how to use them. See http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/Contexts

Cipa, my experience was sort of like that, although I ran into a lot less difficulty. smiley

I installed the Beta 1 and messed around with it, but I wanted fixes and what not, so I found that page you mentioned, and I worked my way through installing SVN on my Ubuntu Server installation, and then things started falling into place.

A day or two ago, I wanted to install from SVN on my live web hosting server (I’m using Hostmonster). They don’t use Ubuntu, so apt-get was out of the question for installing SVN. I had to build from source. I found a couple guides, but they were all from 2007 and were out of date. So what did I do? I figured it out and wrote my own guide. laugh

                http://www.compeek.net/justthis/2009/07/15/how-to-install-subversion-on-a-shared-hostmonster-account/

It describes how to get all of the necessary files (including where to find the latest version of each, so the guide won’t get outdated as fast) and how to install everything so it all works. I hope this helps somebody who is trying to get SVN working on their hosting account to install Revolution. Note that you need SSH access so you can use a command line.
I'm learning more about MODx all the time and loving it.

Is it necessary to create a virtual host in order to have a working context?

How about www.website.com/staging? Can I use contexts in this case?
I tried to do it on my local server but without luck so far.

No, you don’t have to create a virtual host. You can use a plugin to switch contexts based on whatever logic you want to use...
