BobRay, that does seem like it will be extremely useful. I look forward to using property sets. laugh

splittingred, I can appreciate that. smiley

I’ve been setting up a set with Evolution (Revolution isn’t quite ready to handle everything I need like Ditto, TinyMCE, etc), and I have to say I’m impressed over and over by the simplicity MODx provides for getting my site working. I look forward very much to the time when Revolution is ready to start being used "for real" with critical addons working and everything.

IMO, this separation is a key distinction, and something that reinforces the separation of presentation and logic that makes MODx what it is. Without this, we are just another CMS system, where form and function are always a challenge to isolate and the already available components rule the project’s success.

That is what MODx is not!! smiley MODx is the land where to settle and build a house,
not just another room in an apartment building.

I don’t think this would suddenly make MODx not unique. tongue

I’m thinking merging chunks and snippets isn’t the best option after all. I can see the use for having them separate. However, I do think it’d be nice to have templates and chunks somehow merged or something like I described a little earlier with subtemplates and what not. smiley

Templates and chunks merging does actually make a bit of sense but would take some work, since so many things are attached to templates.

I don’t see the problem. Templates are templates, the skeleton around which the page is built. Chunks are something else.

sottwell, my original thought about combining snippets and chunks made some sense to me because a chunk is basically to a snippet what an HTML document is to a PHP file. A PHP can output everything an HTML file can, but a PHP file can (but doesn’t have to) contain logic, or code. A snippet can output everything a chunk can, but a snippet can (but doesn’t have to) contain logic.

You are right, combining templates and chunks just like that doesn’t make sense because they are different things. What I’m suggesting is a better way to make templates and chunks work together. And besides, chunks are basically mini-templates, so I suppose combining them does make some sense.

Again, these are just some ideas and there are probably lots of ways of looking at them. smiley

I use heliotrpe’s plugin TemplateFromFile to accomplish this. By building the template from external php pages I can process the php natively on the server before it is included to MODx as a template. This eliminates the chunk and the snippet grin
