A better UI for Revolution

Hy MODx-Freaks

so I wrote already about the new UI in the next MODx "Revolution". I tested the last (alpha-6) and because there are UI changes (and I’m a webdesigner/graphic designer) I would like to share my opinions about the UI and what could be done better.

So step #1 is about the Icons and other little improvements. So check my photoshop mockup here:
http://img.skitch.com/20081226-e3g9ebtmf3qnh848a9at1qbhb5.png[img width=500 height=295.83333333333]http://img.skitch.com/20081226-e3g9ebtmf3qnh848a9at1qbhb5.png" alt="" />

• new Icons
• save/duplicate/etc buttons NOT in scroll area
• other little changes like space around content

But this are still a little changes. Overall I think the backend could be done more flexible (drag and drop of sitetree for example like in Wordpress 2.7) and the main navigation should be in a more logical order and in a better design...

I like it, although I’m not sure "Dublicate" is an improvement.

Would it convert the page to Irish?

Nice mockup. I haven’t had time to look at recent alphas for Rev, but I have to agree with getting the "Save, Dup, etc" out of the scroll area.

Even for 0.9.x: because if the content is lengthy, even with the buttons reduplicated at the bottom, up or down, you still have to scroll.

@ BobRay: aaah, yes. With "Dublicate" you can duplicate a document to Irish.
@ pbear: Thanx! yes, it would be nice, if the "save" etc wouldn’t scroll away...

I think that since the manager is Frame based it will need to be within the scroll area. Will need a js/css solution to keep the buttons at the top of the scroll area.

You folks need to keep up with development. The manager UI has already gone through major changes since the last alpha and does not even look remotely like this mockup any longer. The action buttons are now absolutely positioned in the scroll area; it works very well.

Hm, thanx. Would it be possible, that anyone can send me a preview of the latest state? Maybe via DM?
That would be great...

The "latest" version changes almost daily. It’s readily available at http://svn.modxcms.com/svn/tattoo/tattoo/branches/revolution/. To see it in action, though, you need to retrieve it using a Subversion client such as TortoiseSVN: http://tortoisesvn.tigris.org/.

Then you need to build and install the final product as described here: http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/Development+and+Testing+Notes

Oh thanx. I’m not a programmer so this SVN thing ist new for me. But I’ll try to fetch it as you described, thank you!

Ok, I tried to setup a running Version of the latest build using the Mac App "Versions" (http://versionsapp.com/) and MAMP. But I dont get a running system, because the installation ends up with a emty page. I already posted a solution for that "bug" to the bugtracking system (its named something like "fuji" or similar) but at this time I dont get it...

UPDATE:
Ok, I got it. I had to REEEEEEAD this SLOOOOWLY:
http://svn.modxcms.com/docs/display/revolution/Development+and+Testing+Notes

What I had to do is searching my MAMP-Folder (on Mac) for php.ini-Files (2) and set there the 8MB limit to 32MB.
