One thing I have longed for is the ability to set preferences at the level of the container/folder. The most important preference I’d like to be able to set is the template for the contained objects. For example, there might be a container called "widgets" with a template called "main template," but inside, all of the contained objects ought to have the template called "widgets." Whenever a new resource is created within the "widgets" container, it should automatically be assigned the "widgets" template, but the parent template should still be "main template."

The "Inherit Parent Template" plugin is great, but doesn’t account for more complex scenarios like this.

Templates aren’t the only things that would be nice to configure. Setting a default menuindex or TV value (specific to the container, not just the overall default TV value), or pagetitle, or other options would be handy.

A separate, but somewhat related concept is that of calculated values for fields. For example, I might want the pagetitle of the resource to be a combination of TV fields, such as:

    [*widget_name*], by [*widget_creator*]

If I could set the default pagetitle for all items in a given container to have that calculated value, that would save a lot of tedious data entry. Of course, it would be best if the calculated value showed up in the resource list. As it is now, the raw text shows up ( [*widget_name*], by [*widget_creator*] ).

this should do for templates. I agree with the other points.
