Bad – currently underdeveloped, this area could be further enhanced, I’m not keen at all on the tabed panel and we could use a similar approach to WordPress with customisable moveable dashboard panels.
Feel free to post comps to suggest other structures. Customization will not come in beta-1.

Bad – I’m unsure where the icons below the home page fit in, what do they do?
They will be ironed out later. See my previous post.

it would also be nice to have options to turn descriptive text off or on below menu titles.
I would like to have options on where the save buttons should appear (option – top, bottom, both) all from with the admin page.
I would like to have the options seen in Expression Engine to move Template variables within order,
Please file these suggestion in JIRA.

I am unsure why we need to have ’Recourse Content’ within every tab as most of my sites will focus more on custom Template variables
I 100% disagree. Most all of my clients like having Resource Content below.

Why do we need the left panel,
You need it for site structure, snippet reference, etc.

and if we have left panel give option to hide it
Please file this suggestion in JIRA.

current interface lacks this level of customisation.
Please file this, with detailed suggestions on what types of customizations you would want, in JIRA.

I hope my comments help in building a more rounded modx interface.

    Thank you.

      *SNIP*

...when I click create new resource on the quick links, it would be better for me if the tree was restored to resource view.
Good suggestion. Can you file that in JIRA.
Also wondering why on the "site" menu, we have "new document" and on the quick links "create resource" yet they do the same thing?
They need to be synced. Could you file this in JIRA?
Finally, it would be nice for me to see some sort of title at the top of the resource editor telling me the type of resource I am editing/creating - i.e. whether a "document", "Weblink" or "Symlink". It is just a good visual reminder.....
      Good suggestion. smiley

      All filed in Jira

      Thanks
      /k

I’ve spent a little design time on developing concepts for the modx UI.

I hope they will be of interest, please do let me know your thoughts smiley

I like it. Nice presentation also grin grin I am thrilled that the UI is getting so much attention. Keep it up, by the time Revo goes live it will have a great UI (or a few great UI themes to choose from).

I have not seen the latest WP interface, will need to take a look.

ummm, not sure about similarity to WordPress but it was designed for modx.

My inspiration, Windows Vista, Mac Os, Moveable Type, WordPress, Expression Engine 2.

Below screen capture of WordPress 2.7.

I liked the ideas in your presentation.. and the presentation in general too, very nice. It shows that you have actually spend time on it.

This looks really good. Thanks for doing this.

                  I do have some thoughts/concerns:

                  1. This would definitely require losing the iframe that’s currently in the manager. We’re definitely not opposed to that, but there is one big drawback: Loading times. If the page would have to reload every time you load a new subpage (ie, new doc), then those trees on the left would have to reload as well every page load.

That means that you’d have a bit of extra overhead to loading every page. This is probably my main drawback to losing frames; but it is definitely not a deal-breaker. Just something to consider and mull over. We’ve already discussed ways around this - changing the tree to a local tree (ie, no lazy loading) where you save when done dragging stuff around, caching user-based data, etc. But it would take some work to get up to speed.

                  2. The bottom bar and personalization we would push to Revo 2.1 or beyond. That will take more than trivial development, and we’d rather get something out soon, considering how pushed-back Revo already is.

                  3. The same goes with the modlets - we already had some idea of that for the current dashboard, but were going to push that to 2.1 because of time issues. For now, they’d have to be static.

                  4. I’m not sure what your vision is on that 2nd row navbar menu up top...seems redundant to me.

Other than that, this is a fantastic design. If you have some images/backgrounds/icons, we could set up a branch and start tinkering with it.

Again, my main concern is that we’d have to lose the iframe and it would be slower to load; but other than loading time concerns, I’d rather get rid of the iframe.

                  I’ll be contacting you soon.

Good job modxpowered. Looking really good. I’m not a big fan of the WP design btw - at least not the demo one at openCMS...it looks too crowded IMHO...but I digress...again, very good design. I especially like the proposed resource settings panel.

Thanks for your passion for modx....it often does that to people  laugh

Yeah I agree, the proposed admin could develop over time and be released in stages for future versions, Revo 2 has seen so much core work and the new admin interface design would be a nice upgrade. Additional advanced admin UI features such as the bottom bar and personalization options would provide a nice wow factor on upgrade to 2.1 etc, making the upgrade path even more attractive.

                      3. The same goes with the modlets - we already had some idea of that for the current dashboard, but were going to push that to 2.1 because of time issues. For now, they’d have to be static.

Nice to know this has been discussed smiley

After using the current alpha I noticed that while the drop down menu worked nicely (usability) I missed the option to jump between panels within the same admin section. The proposed row of buttons adds an additional layer of navigation.

Thanks for all the positive feedback, I’ll look at how we can make this a real living design over the coming week and look forward to seeing how it works in live form.
