is there a way to keep the resource tree in expand all by default when the admin logs in?
You can create plugin (4 example ManagerExpand) with code:
echo '<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">
parent.tree.expandTree();
</script>';
and set checkbox OnManagerWelcomeHome
Insert this line in .htaccess
php_value magic_quotes_gpc off
or ask your hoster

I’m currently on MAMP and can’t figure out how to fix this...

If this is a recent version of MAMP, go to Applications/MAMP/conf/ and the version of PHP you’re using. The php.ini file will be there; do a search for "magic_quotes" and change the setting in the file. Should be around line 380
; Magic quotes
;
magic_quotes_gpc = Off
Susan, thanks for helping out with this.
Under PHP 5.3.2 the only "Magic Quotes" line was: magic_quotes_sybase = Off
I opened the preferences, changed the PHP version to 5.2.13 and edited like you said.
magic_quotes_gpc = Off
Everything works now, appreciate the help!
Is there a way I could still get this working under PHP 5.3.2?

Yes. Just add the entire line in the appropriate php.ini file. I actually may have copy/pasted the lines I posted above into the 5.3 ini file; I don’t remember now.
