Fetching system settings... odd observation

So while pimping out this doc page:

I noticed something odd: the modSystemSetting objects only have the following attributes:

[key] => site_name
[value] => My Skiphop Site
[xtype] => textfield
[namespace] => core
[area] => site
[editedon] => 2010-10-24 21:53:55

Where the heck is the NAME of that thing? There’s no "name" column in the database... so how the heck is the System Settings list getting its names? They aren’t in the related tables (context_setting or namespace).

I’m befuddled. Can someone explain?

key == name ?

Nope. key != name. It can be aliased to a lexicon entry, but I don’t see where it’s storing the untranslated version of that thing. In that example, the name is AWOL:



There has to be an attribute somewhere that stores "Site name"...

Aha... they’re in modx_lexicon_entries. Makes sense because the name (and the description) can be localized.

So if your key name is "mykey", the name is retrievable by this query:



And the description by this query:



So you can’t really do a join on that table... you have to look up the System Settings "key", then search for a lexicon entry whose name is based off that key. Hindsight = 20/20

A join wont always work there, fyi; the tables are only for *overrides* - lexicon entries overridden. The rest are built from files.
