    Check this out:

I’m trying to put together a good diagram for the official docs that gives a good visual of how database tables, the xPDO XML schema file, and the PHP map/class files relate. It’s important to identify which methods are used to traverse between these different areas -- I’ve identified a couple, but I’m wondering if there are more (granted, I know I haven’t explicitly shown how to use those methods, but I can add that to the explanation -- instantiating a generator object and calling it doesn’t make for a good diagram I don’t think).

Any thoughts on this? Is this accurate? Is it understandable? Am I correct in saying that the 2 ways into this "circle" are by creating database tables then reverse engineering them OR by creating an XML schema? Are there any other access points?

    Any feedback greatly appreciated!

Hey, nice diagram. Unfortunately I can’t answer you questions as I’ve only yesterday started playing with Revo and looking at xPDO. What I can say from a revo noob viewpoint is that I think this kind of documentation is really badly needed. I’ve done quite a bit of database work in my time, and I’m not braindead or anything undecided, but the xPDO aspect to revo is confusing the hell out of me. I’ve read a load of forum posts and blog articles (often over-complicated) about revo and xPDO but still cannot fathom how do do a simple "SELECT x from y" query on a non-modx table. Do I really need to build a whole schema for this simple query? Perhaps someone with some knowledge in this area could write a quick howto for doing a simple SELECT query from one non-modx table.
BTW, Revo "feels" pretty awesome so far, excepting the xPDO frustrations. I’m sure probably I’m missing something obvious here and that aspect to Revo probably also rocks. Big thumbs-up to the Revo developers.

I think the team i spushing so much xpdo that they sometime forget to precise that you can use basic PDO with MODx/xPDO.

That’s mean that you can use the official PDO doc/methods for your non modx table without using schema/map/etc...

Of course, if you do that, you’ll also lose most of the functionality brought by xPDO.

Jason told us that they have plan to provide automattic class map builder (or at least easier process) in future release.

Anyone else? I’m concerned that this thing isn’t even accurate. Gulp.
