    firstly i must say how great modx is, i have been using revolution for the first time and had developed a great site.
    It was done and came to the part of moving the site to my clients server, i have found the documentation for moving a site rather on the technical side. As a result i’ve done something wrong, don’t what can’t get into the manager or the site/? - just getting internal server error message.

    is there something thing that i can easily correct, looking at my ftp client it seems all there, i have backed up my database beforehand,

    if i do a clean install on another server can i just use my database?

    and bring over the other neccessary files?

    thanks

      Hi,
      Very hard to say without more details.

      I can offer a couple thoughts. I will assume that you’ve copied all files over from the old site, and made sure that their file permissions are still correct. I will also assume that you have loaded the database to the new site.

      If that’s true, here’s a thought. Frequently you cannot use the identical database name on the new site. Their account might force an extra prefix with their account name in it, for instance. In that case, you’d need to change that name in manager/includes/config.inc.php

      All kinds of other possibilities, though, based on exactly what the error message was, what kind of server you’re on, actually all the stuff that posting on here prompts you to enter, hint, hint. smiley

      good luck.

        having an absolute nightmare today in general really, i cant even get the clean modx installation to work on the new server

        goes through all the stages fine then gets to the last stage and right at the very bottom says;

        #

        Error writing config file.
        #

        Config file permissions successfully updated.
        #

        Error saving the default admin user.
        Array ( [0] => 00000 )

        with these errors at the top of the page;

        Warning: PDOStatement::execute() [pdostatement.execute]: SQLSTATE[23000]: Integrity constraint violation: 1062 Duplicate entry ’settings_version’ for key ’PRIMARY’ in /websites/123reg/LinuxPackage21/su/rt/io/surtio.com/public_html/core/xpdo/om/xpdoobject.class.php on line 1288

        once this is sorted can some please post a step by step simple guide using myphpadmin of how to export my orginal database and import my new database into to my fresh install?

        thanks, t.

          Sorry about your trouble. I know that can be really frustrating.

          I’m guessing, but it might be that your second install was trying to install the same data on top of the data left over from your first install.

          Since you still have the original good installation (and don’t make any changes there!), I would go into PhpMyAdmin and drop all the tables in the MODx database (just "check all" and look for the dropdown and the bottom that lets you perform bulk actions). While you’re there, double-check the DB name. Then got to File Manager in cPanel and delete the entire MODx install.

          Now, redo the site transfer, following the directions very carefully. Be sure to do an updgrade install as the last step.

            hi bob ray, actually i dont really know what happened with my first install the database is all still there when i look at it in phpmyadmin - so i haven’t lost anything then?

            is there anything else other than the database that contains anything?

            what i really want to do is move the database from one server to another,

            can this be done by doing a clean install and then just inporting the database in php my admin? what changes will i need to make to the database and how?

            thanks your time and help, t.

              I’m not sure I’m understanding you. I assumed that you had a working site on an existing server (your local machine?) and wanted to move it to another server. And that you hadn’t made any changes to the original site. Is that correct?

              Moving just the database would do it as long as you don’t have any of your own CSS files, images, etc. on the site. If you’ve done things the usual way, those would all be in the /assets folder so you could just move that in addition to the DB.

              But let’s get on the same page with the current state of things first.

                ok think we’re getting somewhere now! although it’s not quite there so i dont want to count my chickens.

                Managed to install modx on 123-reg, it was a case of going through the instructions carefully especially this part;

                " If you get a blank screen or cannot proceed after clicking ’Install’, verify these steps:

                1. Make sure the directories "/[root]", "/core/packages","/core/cache", and "/core/export" are writable. (root will be the actual directory you are installing to.)
                2. Make sure your php.ini setting sets memory_limit to 128M, and max_execution_time to 120
                3. Create a blank file "/core/config/config.inc.php" and make it writable. DO NOT COPY config.inc.tpl! Just make it a blank file!
                4. Post a message in the Revolution forum regarding your issue. State your server setup and installation info, and we’ll try and help you find a solution.
                "

                i have managed to ’dump’ my database in phpmyadmin,

                i did this by selecting the database in the export tab in phpmyadmin and checking the ’add drop database’ check box.

                i then opened the database in notepad and changed the references to the old database name to new one and saved as the new database name.

                then in phpymadmin for the new server i imported this successfully.

                now when i login to the manager
                i see what looks like the site i developed else on the other server.
                the templates all seems to be there.
                the chunks ive created are there
                and the resources are there in the tree, if i click on a resource i get an error though something about tiny editor.- i assume because various component arent installed.

                So now what?

                I’m assuming as i’ve done this all in my own wierd way that somethings up and things wont be there, and if i click preview page things wont work.

                now im going to drop the components into the relevant asset folder is this ok?

                then bring in my css...

                what more will i need to adjust?

                  correction - i needed to bring in my core components

                  then i brought in my ccs files -

                  most things seem to be working now can preview a page,

                  only thing that doesn’t seem right is the gallery component -

                  currently copying that over

                    ok everything apart from the gallery component seems to be working so i must be missing some files, where else other than /core/components and assets would files for the gallery component be located?
                    thanks.

                      I’m just guessing, but check out assets/components/gallery
